Enactus honors Cairo University team for winning the 2019 World Cup, beating 1730 universities from 32 countries and pays tribute to its sponsors for their support and confidence in the institution

 

 

Cairo 30 November 2019: After a rife semi-final competition which took place in Silicon Valley, California, against the US, German and Canadian teams, the Egyptian team was able to garner the USD 50,000 “Ford Better World” prize. Enactus Egypt honored the young youths for winning the 2019 World Cup, beating 1730 university teams from 32 different countries.

The ceremony started by introducing Enactus Egypt, a promising organization that includes a select group of the finest youth from 52 public and private universities and institutes. The organization’s main aim is to create projects that serve the community and improve its members’ standard of living as well as developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators helping into creating a better and more sustainable world.

 One of the key events is the annual competition organized for different universities and colleges to compete with a project idea while using innovations to improve the world and contribute to the wellbeing of their societies achieving tangible economic, environmental and social return. Hence, Enactus has so far impacted 1.3 Million lives around the world whether by creating jobs, ameliorating health conditions and making individuals’ part of the society. The winning team in Egypt qualified for the Enactus Global Competition.

The organization recognized its sponsors during 2019 who supported their efforts and vision, especially Orange Egypt, Orascom Construction, EG Bank, Coca-Cola, Exxon Mobil Egypt, Giza Systems, Juhayna, Savola Foods and the Professional Development Foundation whom provided moral support through organizing trainings and workshops to develop Enactus teams’ skills.

 The members of the Enactus Egypt Board of Directors and Financial Expert and Head of Delta Shield Company, Ms. Nevine Al-Tahir also provided consultations that boosted the performance of youth participants and enabled them to compete globally.  The organization was delighted from the fact that the Cairo University Enactus Egypt team won the local and international competitions, reflecting the progress witnessed by public universities not only in academics aspect, but also in equipping a generation of successful leaders and entrepreneurs. The winning project, “Rosy”, focused on providing women in underprivileged areas with high quality, organic, plastic free sanitary napkins at a cheaper price manufactured from banana fiber.  The program is in line with Egypt’s strategy to support youth skills and capabilties to lead the nation’s development through similar pioneering initatives.  The event was concluded by thanking all the sponsors who participated in the honoring ceremony for Cairo University’s winning team among this fierce competition, especially Coca-Cola, EG Bank, Exxon Mobil Egypt, Juhayna, Giza Systems, Dell Carnegie, Orange Egypt and Orascom Construction.

Egypt had previously won the Enactus Global Competition in 2009 and 2010. In addition, in 2012 and 2018 Enactus Egypt attained second place globally, before successfully sealing first place this year.
